We are pleased to announce our plenary speaker will be Dr. Kerstin Wasson

Bio: Kerstin has served for 24 years as the Research Coordinator of the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, a partnership between NOAA and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.  Her position requires her to be a “jack-of-all-trades”, and so she knows a little bit about a lot of topics in estuarine ecology, conducting investigations ranging from water quality to sea otters, from migratory shorebirds to eucalypts. However her passion and research focus is on restoring resilient salt marsh ecosystems and native oyster populations. She is grounded in place-based science, but finds joy in coordinating communities of practice of diverse practitioners working in similar places. She has shepherded comparative marsh resilience investigations across US marshes at the NERRS, and helped found and lead the Native Olympia Oyster Collaborative, which synthesizes oyster restoration science from Baja California to British Columbia.

While you are in Moss Landing, we invite you to visit Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve. They have a visitor center highlighting estuarine ecology and 5 miles of trails.
